Dating to c.1890-1900, I am thrilled to present this outstanding, jewel-encrusted silver gilt cuff bracelet for the consideration of my Ruby Lane clientele!
AND THE OSCAR FOR BEST ANTIQUE BLING GOES TO. . . . THIS BRACELET! Measuring 1 7/8" wide at the front and tapering to 5/8" at the back, this ultra-regal silver-gilt cuff is literally encrusted with genuine precious and semi-precious gemstones! I am convinced that this jewel is a custom-made piece; it appears as if a lady of fashion took all of her loose gemstones to her jeweler in order to create this one-of-a-kind bracelet over a century ago!
Starting with the smallest gems, there are 77 natural, untreated rubies set in this jewel alone! Each ruby measures approx. 3 mm, and weighs 10 points each, adding up to a total of 7.70 carats! The larger gems weigh between 10 points up to several carats each, and are nothing short of an education in graduate gemology! There are oval-shaped aquamarines weighing a calculated 1.5 carats each, 10 garnets weighing a total of 9.6 carats, a large, cushion-cut yellow zircon measuring 10 mm x 10 mm x 6.1 mm and weighing 6.14 carats, an Old European-cut rock crystal weighing 2.86 carats, natural dark and light blue Ceylon sapphires, and more!
Also making an appearance are pale citrine, smoky quartz, pink tourmaline, blue topaz, red and blue spinels, an opal, . . . the list goes on. . .all topped off with a wonderful, huge, carnelian bullet-cut cabochon set center-stage! The carnelian measures 17 mm at the base and 11 mm tall, and weighs 17.71 carats on its own! That adds up to over 60 carats of natural, untreated gemstones! Each and every one of these gems are antique-cut, and pre-date modern irradiation and high heart treatment by 60 years! This means that these stones are just as Mother Earth produced them! SIMPLY AMAZING!
All of the stones are securely claw-set in closed-backed mountings, save for the carnelian, which is set into its own collet and held by 16 long claws. The foundation of the bracelet is silver gilt (sterling-grade silver which has been fire-gilded with 18k gold; unmarked but tested), and the gilding is nearly as fresh as the day this bracelet was commissioned over 120 years ago! I know that it is unusual to see gems of this quality set in silver gilt rather than gold, but many European countries often set even the most valuable of gemstones in silver gilt when there was a shortage of gold, whether due to war, or the current economy of the nation. I believe this bracelet to be Eastern European in origin, and the fact that it bears no assay marks for silver indicates that it was made for a local lady, and not for retail export.
Best of all, this cuff-style bracelet is in as fresh a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for! Needless to say, with this jewel on your arm, you would not look amiss on the Red Carpet on Oscar night! This bracelet will fit a wrist up to 7 1/2"; it is more than large enough for the modern lady to wear, and just LOOK at those gemstones! The bracelet is also in all-original condition, and the clasp snaps shut securely. This bracelet is free of repairs, and weighs a monumental 65.69 grams!
Simply the MOST impressive late-Victorian bracelet that this antique jewelry dealer, collector and scholar has seen in 25+ years, this jewel represents a fine investment opportunity, as well as being the ONLY piece of jewelry you will need to wear to that white tie event! If you collect the BEST in antique jewelry, this phenomenal jewel belongs on your arm and in your collection! It would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of the finest in natural gemstone or runway jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box.
