Dating to c.1890-1900, this beautiful ring boasts a large, untreated Siberian amethyst set in a cunning mounting of 14k green gold!
Measuring a perfectly-proportioned 7/8" long x 5/8" across the bezel, this lovely ring boasts a superb Siberian amethyst measuring 9.5 x 15.8 x 7.4 mm and weighing a calculated 6.82 carats! As many collectors know, Siberian amethysts are coveted for their depth of color and the flashes of magenta these gems display under almost any light! The finest of these amethysts were mined out by 1900; they are the richest shade of deepest violet, a color which comes straight from Mother Nature! This example is second-to-none, and is spectacularly hand-cut and faceted! Siberian amethysts bring a premium, and can sell for over $100 a carat, and large stones are getting more and more difficult to discover on the open market!
This stone is securely collet-set in it's original hand-wrought 14k green gold mounting (marked "14K" on applied tab inside the bezel). The use of green gold withjust a hint of rose in the alloy is a unique choice, and gives this ring just a bit more "punch!" The bezel of the ring is framed by a complex, hand-spun gold "wave" of spirals which display wonderful detail above and below! Four applied golden diamonds further decorate the bezel, and below this feature is a braid of rose-gold ribbon which one could easily miss unless one was looking for it; this goldsmith was clearly an expert to construct a ring with such fine detail! SO PRETTY!
The shoulders of this ring are decorated with ropes of gold on the shoulders, tapering back to a triple shank. Best of all, this ring is as wearable today as when it first graced the hand of a lady of wealth and fashion in the 1890s! The only sign of wear is some mild smoothing to the highest facets of the amethyst, which is perfectly in keeping with it's 120+ year old history. This ring is a size 6 1/4, although the ring could be re-sized by a good bench jeweler for little cost. (Due to the complex construction of the shank, I recommend sizing only by laser; I have a laser worker, or you can use your own!)
Weighing in at 5.26 grams, this is a substantial ring that is suitable for day or evening wear, and will take you from the office to the opera in high Victorian style! If you love the finest in antique jewelry, this ring belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make a thoughtful gift for any lady fond for the absolute best in antique amethyst rigs, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this beauty; it is the LAST Siberian amethyst ring I have in stock, up to 30-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
