Dating to c.1880, this large Victorian silver locket boasts a charming "buttoned up" cuff motif, and comes just in time for the consideration of my holiday-shopping Ruby Lane clientele!
Measuring a regal 2 5/8" long with its large bail x 1 1/2" wide x just under 1/2" thick, this Victorian silver locket features THE most cunning design that this antique jewelry dealer of 25+ years has seen in a very long time! Fashioned in three dimensions as a buttoned cuff, this jewel also boasts hand engraving and bead work! "Cuff motif" silver lockets and bracelet have always commanded a premium on the collector's market, and one can see why; this example is truly exceptional! It even features matching engraving on the bail! This locket is likely American in origin, as it has no hallmarks, but tests to sterling-grade silver.
The locket opens to reveal the construction of the silver pin-set "button," and retains one of its original silver liners. The glass is missing from this example, but new crystals could easily be cut to fit. Unlike most lockets of the Victorian era, this example has managed to make it through the past 135 years without major dings or dents, and it is quite substantial, weighing in at 19.56 grams. This pretty locket looks splendid worn on a Victorian book chain, a contemporary silver rope chain, or on a black silk ribbon in true Victorian fashion!
If you collect the best in Victorian jewelry, this lovely locket will take you from the office to the theatre in high Victorian style! It would also make a thoughtful gift for any lady fond of the best in Victorian silver jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this tailored charmer; layaway is not available on this item, but USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
