Dating to c.1865-1875, this fantastic lye-motif brooch is one exquisite example of Victorian jewelry, and features an engraving of the wind god Zephyrus!
Measuring a grand 2" long x 1 1/8" wide, this brooch epitomizes all that is so wonderful about the sterling silver jewelry of the High Victorian era! Exquisitely crafted, this brooch takes the form of a stringed lyre, complete with individual silver strings attached to tiny silver "tuners" at the top! The brooch boasts a hand-engraved, silver gilt bust of the wind god Zephyrus, with two sets of wings, one on his head, and the other furling up the sides of the lyre! Hand-engraved chevrons spread gracefully to the top, making this one-of-a-kind brooch even more special!
But wait; it gets even better! This three-dimensional treasure has made it through the past 145+ years in as pristine a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for! (Personally, I do not think it was ever worn!) I do not throw the term "mint condition" around loosely, but in this case, it applies; this brooch is free of signs of any wear, damage or replacements, right down to the original protruding "T and C" clasp at the back! I have not cleaned this jewel, as it has built up a delicious age patina which only the passing of the generations can impart. SO STUNNING!
Best of all, this brooch is highly-wearable, and a must-have for any lady fond of antique lyre-motif jewelry. It looks fantastic worn on a lapel or a sweater, and will make a perfect cloak pin when Winter winds begin to blow! And just LOOK at the detail! This brooch weighs 7.65 grams, and is certain to get compliments galore! It would also make a stellar gift for any music-minded lady, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss this grand example of Victorian silver; layaway is not available on this item, but it is priced for quick sale, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
