Dating to c.1830-1840, this pair of transitional late Georgian earrings are part of a magnificent high-karat gold and Sardinian coral cameo demi-parure that I am offering for the first time in my 11+ years as a Platinum Level dealer on Ruby Lane!

This museum-worthy demi-parure consists of a necklace, a brooch, and this pair of magnificent earrings! Measuring 3" long x 3/4" at its widest point, these jewels epitomize all that is so wonderful about the jewelry of the 1830s! Wrought from 15k yellow gold, they are extra-long, very ornate, and boast two natural, red Sardinian coral cameos each (gold unmarked but tested)! The jewelry of the 1830s looked to Rococo and Gothic influences, and these stunning earrings display elements of both! The tops of the earrings are set with hand-carved coral cameo busts of cherubs, and each measures 7 mm x 5 mm x 4 mm tall! These tiny coral sculptures are securely set with six golden claws against a background of swirling gold.

The drops of the earrings measure 2 3/8" long, and each is set with a coral cameo of Neoclassical busts, one a lady, and one a gentleman. These cameos measure 12 mm x 9 mm x 4.5 mm tall, and, like the smaller cameos, are carved from deepest red Sardinian coral. These cameos are each set with 10 golden claws in an ornate collet. Above and below the larger cameos, two textured golden leaves add extra dimension against the beautiful framework of scrolls and ribbon motifs. The bottom of the drops are set with tiny fleur-des-lis; a wonderful touch to a fabulous pair of earrings! As with the vast majority of jewelry dating to the 1830s, these are hollow-constructed, with solid golden elements. The repoussee stamped construction is characteristic of the jewelry manufactured in England and France circa 1835, which means that these jewels look almost as pretty viewed from the back as they are from the front!

Best of all, these earrings have made it into the 21st century in splendid condition! There are no losses, damage, or repairs, nor splits to the gold. All four coral cameos are intact. The only replacement is to the ear wires, which were changed over to gold-filled screw backs sometime in the 1940s, likely after the wires had worn out after over a century. It would be little trouble to have these changed back to gold wires, but the screw backs allow for wear by ladies without pierced ears. Otherwise, these earrings are just as fresh as when they were first worn by a lady of wealth and fashion during the 1830s! Together, the earrings weigh a surprisingly comfortable 7.95 grams.

Simply a highly-rare and sought-after survival, these earrings are certain to thrill the serious collector, and represent a fine investment which looks drop-dead gorgeous on the ear! I will be offering the matching necklace and brooch in separate listings today, but should you wish to acquire the set, you can take 10% off the sale price on all THREE pieces! If you collect the BEST in antique jewelry, these earrings belong in your collection! They would also make a fabulous gift for any lady fond of the ultimate in antique earrings, and will be shipped in a gift box. Do not miss these magnificent jewels; up to 90-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
