Dating to c.1820, this late-Georgian ring is a one-of-a-kind jewel suitable for wear by a lady or a gentleman, and holds a large Imperial topaz which is second to none!
Measuring a grand 3/4" in diameter across the bezel, this ring epitomizes all that is so wonderful about the jewelry of the 1820s! This stunning jewel is set with a square step-cut topaz measuring 10 mm x 10 mm x 5.5 mm, and weighing an impressive calculated 4.49 carats! The topaz is a superb shade of vibrant honey-gold with the hint of orange which puts this gemstone into the Imperial category, and both the cut and the color are a joy to behold! As with most rings of the Georgian era, this topaz is foiled and closed at the back, and imparts fabulous fire from every angle!
Surrounding the Imperial topaz is a halo of 16 natural pearls measuring 2.5 mm each. The pearls are a lovely shade of silvery white, with a peacock-like iridescence which is rare in a ring of any age! All of the gemstones are set in pushed-up collets of 15k gold, and all but one of the pearls are original to the ring. The forked shoulders are decorated with the deep chasing and engraving found on the majority of rings dating to the 1820s, and the shank is plain, polished gold (later Victorian export mark of 15CT; tested). JUST SUBLIME!
This ring is currently a size 6, but the plainness of the rear of the shank would allow for easy re-sizing by a good bench jeweler for little cost. It is in exquisite condition; there is a small black spot above the foil which is visible in the photos, but it is invisible when the ring is worn, and is considered acceptable wear for a ring of this great age. (Please note that the topaz is perfectly intact.) Otherwise, this jewel is as fresh as when it was first sported by a dandy of wealth and fashion nearly 200 years ago! This ring lights up beautifully on the hand, and is a very substantial jewel, weighing in at 8.25 grams! It makes the perfect right-hand dress ring for a lady or a super-impressive pinky ring for a gentleman, and will take you from the office to the opera in true Regency style!
If you collect the finest in Georgian jewelry, this impressive ring will make you feel like the belle or the beau of the ball! It would also make a superb gift for anyone who loves the best in investment-quality antique jewelry.
