Dating and fully hallmarked for Birmingham, England, 18kt gold, and the date year for 1876, this top-quality ring is a wonderfully wearable delight!
Measuring 9 mm x 9 mm across the bezel, this beautiful Victorian ring boasts exquisite, untreated rubies, sparkling old mine-cut diamonds, and a a perfect, 4.5 mm natural pearl in the center! Unlike many Victorian rings, the design of this example is not only timeless, but is crafted from the best materials available to the 1870s lapidary! Surrounding the center pearl are four vibrant, pigeon's blood red rubies weighing approx. 15 points each. The diamonds are FULL old mine cuts, not rose-cuts or melees, and weigh approx. 8 points each. That adds up to a total of .92 carat of blazing antique gemstones plus one lovely pearl!
All of the gems are securely claw- and bead-set into a luscious mounting of 18k yellow gold. The band measures 5 mm wide, tapering back to 3.4 mm at the rear of the shank. The ring bears full English hallmarks as well as the maker's mark, "G.C." I am not surprised that this ring is signed, because the lapidary was clearly a master! The quality of the diamonds and rubies is unsurpassed; although not the largest of stones, the rubies are perfectly matched and have incredible clarity, and the old mine-cut diamonds are dazzlingly white! The center pearl is also perfect, and boasts a rosy nacre that beautifully harmonizes with the diamond and rubies! JUST EXQUISITE!
Best of all, this ring has made it through 140 years in as pristine a condition as the most discriminating collector could hope for; it looks as if it was rarely worn! This ring is a petite size 4 1/2, but the shank would allow for easy re-sizing by a good bench jeweler for little cost. It also makes a sublime pinky ring! None of the stones nor the pearl show any visible wear; this ring is just as fresh when it would have been worn by a lady of wealth and fashion in the 1870s! This ring weighs 2.61 grams.
If you love the best in Victorian fine jewelry, this ring belongs on your hand and in your collection! It would also make a splendid gift for that special lady, and will arrive in a gift box. Do not miss this charmer of a jewel; it is priced for quick sale, up to 45-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
