Dating to c.1870 for the old mine-cut diamonds and c.1920 for the jadeite jackets and 10k white gold mountings, these earrings are a wonderfully-wearable classic!
Measuring 11 mm in diameter, these fabulous, Victorian-era old mine-cut diamonds were cut and faceted in the mid 19th-century, but sometime c.1920, a former owner transformed them into the beautiful earrings you see here! Each diamond measures 5 mm in diameter, and is hand-cut and faceted. These early diamonds have superb fire, and are the kind of stones I love to see; chunky, with tall crowns and an open culets! These gems are expertly hand-faceted, eye-clean, and have a light fancy yellow tint to them, which really sets off the jadeite!
Each diamond is held by 12 prongs in open-backed mountings of 10k white gold (unmarked but tested). Each weighs a calculated 30 points, for a total diamond weight of just under 2/3 carat! As with the majority of stud-style earrings of the 1920s, these retains their original screw backs, although one of the butterfly nuts has been replaced with a period example.
These earrings came in with the 1920s-era jadeite jackets you see here, and the combination of rich apple green with the bare hint of gold in the diamonds make for a stunning, one-of-a-kind look! Of course, the solitaires can be worn on their own, but I just love the "makeover" that the former owner gave these diamonds over 90 years ago! Suitable for day or evening wear, these earrings will take you from the office to the theatre in grand style!
Weighing in at 2.35 grams for the pair, this is a beautiful pair of antique diamond and jadeite earrings which will thrill any collector! They would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of fine antique jewelry, and will arrive in a gift box suitable for giving or storing. Do not miss these classic beauties; up to 45-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
