Dating to c.1850-1860, these beautiful Victorian agate earrings have transcended the whims of fashion, and are highly-wearable today!
Measuring 1 7/8" long with their replacement silver gilt ear wires x just over 3/4" wide, these earrings boast stunning, large picture agate cabochons set into substantial frames of silver gilt! Each earring holds a stunningly-figured agate measuring 19 mm x 15 mm x 5 mm tall, and weighing a calculated 10.1 carats! The agates display wonderful figuring, with black "branches" spread out against shades of white and greenish-blue. These cabochons are hand-cut ,and retain a high polish after over a century and a half of gentle wear!
The agates are collet-set front and back in elegant frames accented in the front with beadwork, swags and shields! The frames are unmarked, but test to sterling-grade silver with a 15k gold wash. The swags and shields are hand-stippled and engraved, giving even more texture to these grand beauties. These earrings are top-quality, and have survived over 160 years in as fine a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for! There are no chips or cracks to the stones, and the high-karat mercury gilding is 99% intact! SO STUNNING!
