Dating to c.1835-1845, these transitional late Georgian/early Victorian coral earrings are a brilliant survival!
Measuring 1 1/2" long from their hand-wrought ear wires x 3/8" wide, these earring epitomize all that is so wonderful about early Victorian jewelry; they are superbly-made, and the Italian coral is the MOST delectable shade of vibrant salmon red! Moreover, the acorn was a symbol of fidelity, so there is a love message here as well!
Each earring features a faceted coral bead, from below which the hand-carved acorns are suspended. These acorns are cunningly hand-carved, and both are not just bezeled, but completely cased in solid 12kt yellow gold (unmarked but tested)! This is a true sign that these earrings were made by a skilled jeweler who cut no corners, and these earrings look jet as fresh today as when they were first worn by a lady of wealth and fashion at the dawn of Queen Victoria's reign!
Weighing in at 3.91 grams, these earrings have made it into the 21st century in as fine a condition as the most discerning collector could hope for. There are no losses or cracks to the coral elements, and no repairs to the gold. The color of the coral really reminds me that Spring is here, and these delightful earrings are suitable for every day wear!
If you love the best in early Victorian coral jewelry, these earrings will make a wonderfully wearable addition to your collection! They would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of fine antique coral or sentimental jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving.
