Dating to c.1870, this high-Victorian gold locket is a timelessly-wearable jewel, and is in outstanding condition!
Measuring perfectly-proportioned 2 1/4" long with its integrated bail x1 1/4" wide x 3/8" thick, this locket has been truly treasured over its 140+ year history! Crafted from solid 10k gold, the front of the locket is decorated with an oak leaf set with three creamy silver natural pearls measuring approx. 3 mm each (gold unmarked but tested)! Rarely do Victorian lockets survive in such a fine state of preservation as does this; there are no dents, dings or repairs to be found!
But wait; it gets even better! Open the locket, and you are greeted by a photograph of an adorable little boy! This sturdy, light-eyed toddler is dressed to the nines in a dark wool sacque dress embellished with yards of military-style gold coiled braid complete with shoulder bretelles! This outfit is perfectly in keeping with the formal dress for little boys in the late 1860s, and clearly, this child comes from a wealthy family and was the apple of his mother's eye! He certainly looks like a happy boy!
The other side of the locket is empty, and both liners are present. The only hint of wear to this jewel is the loss of its original crystals; sometime recently, a former owner fitted plastic covers beneath the liners, but one could easily have new crystals cut at a frame shop for little cost. This locket has not been cleaned, and boasts an untouched, nearly matte bloom which collectors treasure! Please note; this locket is solid 10kt gold, NOT gold filled! JUST SPLENDID!
Weighing in at 11.91 grams, this top-quality locket is a must-have for any collector of fine Victorian jewelry, and the large bail makes it suitable for wear on any weight gold chain or width of black silk ribbon! If you collect the best in Victorian jewelry, this locket will become a "go-to" for any occasion or outfit! It would also make a stellar gift for any lady fond of fine antique jewelry, and will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving. Do not miss this superb jewel; it is priced for fast sale, 30-day layaways available, and USPS Priority mail shipping is FREE!
