Dating to c.1750, this exquisite diamond Georgian pendant is a rare survival as well as a fabulously wearable jewel!
Measuring a perfectly-proportioned 2" long x 1" wide, this grand jewel began its long life as one of a pair of early Georgian diamond pendolique earrings, and is drop-dead gorgeous when worn as a pendant today! Best of all, it is a superb example of historic jewelry which is a delight just to hold and examine in the hand! This jewel is crafted in three segments; the top rondel measures just a hair over 1/2" wide, and is set with a glittering rose-cut diamond weighing approx. 20 points!
The center segment features a lovely, lace-like motif with openwork detail, and is set with three tiny diamond "sparks" measuring approx. 1 point each. Suspended from this is a pear-shaped drop, holding a pear-shaped rose-cut diamond weighing approx. 1/4 carat. All of the diamonds are set in rubbed-over, closed-back convex mountings of sterling silver, with beautifully-designed scrollwork and cusps embellishing the top and bottom drops. But wait - it gets even better!
The back of this jewel is still 100% intact, and boasts a very elegant "back to front" finding which is so thick that I wonder how ladies of the mid 18th-century even got them through their ears, but now serves the purpose of a bail to perfection! The back of the top and drop segments are also set with faceted rock crystals - HOW RARE IS THAT? I have only seen this once before in Georgian earrings of this era, and I have been a specialist in Georgian jewelry for over 20 years!
Miraculously, both of the crystals are intact, although one has a small crack, and the foils have dulled a bit over the past 260+ years. It is still an amazing detail, if for no other reason than the fact that these crystals would not have even been seen when the earrings were worn. This goes to prove that there is nothing quite like 18th-century craftsmanship! Today, this jewel looks sumptuous worn on a black silk ribbon or wide chain on the neck, and looks fantastic worn with anything from blue jeans to that little black dress!
Weighing in at 5.4 grams, this historic diamond jewel will make a wonderful addition to any collection of Georgian jewelry, or a stellar gift for that special lady fond of antique diamonds (and do you know any who aren't?) It will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving. Do not miss this splendid pendant; it is priced for quick sale, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
