Dating to c.1835-1845, this is one of the finest love token brooches that I have come across in quite a while, and it positively glows in high-karat gold!
Measuring 1 3/4" x 1 1/8", this classic early Victorian brooch is a perfect example of the new Industrial Revolution method of gold stamping and repousee work, which is completely engraved and finished by hand! This luxurious jewel is crafted in 18k yellow gold for the front, and a slightly tougher alloy of 15k gold on the reverse (all gold unmarked but tested).
The center of the brooch reveals a swatch of woven hair set beneath its original optical crystal. Best of all, this is not a mourning brooch; this brooch celebrates love and life! In the first half of the 19th century, tokens such as this were given to the wives or daughters of the wealthy as a sentimental jewel. This is such an example of love token jewelry, and its fine condition and phenomenal condition indicates that it has been cherished through the past 165+ years!
Weighing in at a substantial 11.5 grams, this brooch is just as romantic and regal today as when it adorned the neck of a lady of fashion in the 1840s. The brooch is in 100% all-original condition, with no losses or replacements. The only sign of its long history is a few specks of crushed seed pearl dust beneath the crystal; this is perfectly acceptable, or can be taken to your jeweler for easy removal. (Frankly, I love this piece just the way it is!)
This high-karat beauty really lights up against anything you wear it with, and it is heirloom quality! Simply an exquisite example of high-end Romantic era jewelry, this brooch will make a wonderfully wearable addition to any collection. Do not miss this beautiful jewel; it is priced for quick sale!
