Dating to c. 1915-1920, this is one fabulous example of a high-quality Victorian diamond set in an early 20th century setting!
The focal point here is the old European-cut diamond, which weighs approx. 20 pts. As collectors know, one cannot judge antique diamonds by the standards of their modern descendants, but this stone is equivalent to an I/J color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is set in six long claws set above the bezel of the ring with fine sunburst engraving below.
The diamond is mounted in an 18k white gold mounting, and the shoulders are set with two white rose-cut diamond "sparks" of 1-2 pts. each (hallmark likely removed by sizing; tested). The shoulders of the ring are embellished with cut work and engraving. This ring is currently a size 7, but the plainness of the rear of the shank would allow for easy re-sizing by your lapidary at little cost.
Now for the not-too-terribly-bad news - the diamond has sustained a small chip which is partially hidden by one of the white gold prongs. I did not notice this when I purchased the ring, but I am pricing it accordingly. This bit of wear is not visible without a 10x loupe, and does not detract from the appearance of this otherwise fantastic ring. Nevertheless, I have taken this into consideration when setting my price. (With the cost of gold reaching $1700 per ounce, it would cost this much to buy the 18k white gold mounting alone!)
This ring is still as lovely as when it graced the hand of a lady of fashion at the beginning of the 20th-century. It weighs 2.6 grams, and would make a wonderful right-hand ring, or an heirloom-quality gift for that special graduate!
If you love the high quality and lush look of fine antique diamonds, here is a substantial ring that will not break the bank! It will be shipped in a gift box suitable for giving or storing. Do not miss this lovely jewel; it is priced for quick sale, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
