Dating to ca.1875, this demi-parure consists of a pair of earrings and a matching brooch, all set with lovely hardstone cameos!
It is challenging enough to find a pair of fine Victorian hardstone cameo earrings; this set also comes with a matching brooch! Both the earrings and the brooch are set with detailed agate cameos depicting a lady of fashion. Likely American in origin, the frames feature an Eastlake-style design with bright-cut engraving which adds even more texture to these lovely jewels!
The earrings measure 3/4" long x 1/2" wide, and hang 1 1/4" long with their original 10k rose-gold ear wires. The frames are rose-gold filled. As with most quality cameo earrings, there is a "right facing" and "left facing" lady to properly frame the face. Together, the earrings weigh 5.5 grams.
The brooch measures 1 1/8" x 7/8", and the frame is also crafted in rose-gold fill. The cameo measures 5/8" x 3/4". The back of the brooch has a slightly later "T and C" clasp. The brooch weighs 5.7 grams. Both the brooch and the earrings are in splendid condition after over 130 years, with no damage to the cameos. The only sign of wear to the earrings is a small rose-gold patch at the top where the wire is set on the reverse. This does not show when the earrings are worn, and is considered perfectly acceptable wear in earrings of this considerable age.
Simply a beautiful Victorian cameo demi-parure, this set is suitable for day or evening wear. They are certain to become a prized addition to any collection of Victorian cameo jewelry! If you collect the best in antique jewelry, this set belongs in your collection! The earrings look especially pretty on the ear, and the brooch can be worn with the earrings or separately. Do not miss these classic Victorian jewels; they are priced for quick sale!
