Fabulous 925 Electroform Silver Modernist Sculptural Light Weight Art Wear Necklace is one of those pieces you will wear all the time. It is made by putting the silver over a wax mold. It is signed 925 on the back. The designs are made using the electroforming process, which is the formation of a layer of sterling silver over a mold of resin (similar to hard plastic). This method allows the creation of beautifully designed sterling silver sculptures and silverware with stunning detail in any shape or size without the heavy weight and cost that is typical to conventional solid sterling silver. The sculpted part is 8 1/2 inches long. The chain is another 6 inches. Strong stunning piece.
Bat-Ami started in the 1960s. She was an independent family woman who turned her art form into a business. Her factory was in Tel-Aviv.
The below is information gathered about the Electroform Process.
The electroforming process is when an artist takes a resin mold and puts it in a tub of charged sterling silver. Over a 10-12 hour process, the sterling electrically forms (i.e. electroform) itself to the mold. The artist then removes the piece and handcrafts more details, including oxidation for depth. After the final designs, a clear coat is added to the sculptures. This coat prevents tarnishing. There is a big difference between electroforming sterling silver and silver plate. As opposed to the electroforming process mentioned above, silver plating is not sterling silver.
