This indescribable set dates to about 1870 and is in amazing condition. It is crafted of 18k yellow gold frames and backings with enamel accents. The centerpieces are depictions of birds crafted of actual bird feathers and set behind what is most likely a piece of rock crystal. They are truly little pieces of art! All three of the birds are different and there is no damage to be found anywhere. Since they are made of natural feathers, the fibers reflect light and show differently in different lights. The last photo was taken with a flash to show the reflection.
The brooch measures approximately 1.5" long and 1.25" wide. The earrings measure approximately 1" long and 13/16" wide. They all have a beautiful gold worked basket on the underside as well. The brooch has a hook where something could be added, a traditional watch pin. The overall weight of the set is 30.8 grams.
Please note: since Ruby Lane insists on changing the first picture, and after three failed attempts at representing this set, they have removed the enameling from the frames of this item. Please do not use that picture as a good representation, as the item does have beautiful enameling that Ruby Lane's staff has chosen to remove from the photo. Thank you.
