This French Sterling Thimble was produced & sold during the 1880's by a silver maker in the town of "Gap", according to the original "Thimble Box" (see photo)..."A L'etoile du Bonheur"...the Star of the Good Hour..
The Thimble is 1" tall and the box is 1.5" tall. The size is stamped in "11" just next to the Hallmark for French Silver.
The Sterling (.950 silver) thimble is in Mint Condition, never having been used it seems..with an intricate "skirt" panel design of Diamonds inset with Flowers, the background of which is darkened to heighten the effect of "pierced windows".
There is a slight band of Gold above the skirt, and the interior is in full gold Gilt! To resist the salt and grease in one's fingertips!!
The Cardboard box is in a pale French Blue color with gold decor, and is in remarkable condition for it's age...slight scuffing around the edges.
A fabulous package in extraordinary condition for your sewing collection...
