What a wonderful and colorful Rooster, about to Crow at the Sun in all its Glory at the Break of Day ! Designed and signed by Michelle Ray in the 1960's... (signed M.Ray in a curious Fish form..a French artist, born in 1933)
The Aubusson Atelier in Paris of Robert Four did the fine weaving in wool, with his signature at the right corner....this atelier produced many Mid Century Moderne Tapestries for all of the major designers...on the back of the tapestry there is an added small rectangle of weaving that contains what looks like "2 1 63", which would possibly be the date of this Tapestry (February 1, 1963).
This Rooster is quite a nice size for display in a smaller space...it is approx. 59" tall by 46"wide...and will glow in any area it fits!! The condition is so Excellent, I could call it Pristine!! The colors are vivid and bright as the day it was woven...and the reverse shows the exact coloration, so there is no fading from sunlight...probably never hung, but rolled up and kept in the dark!! And this magnificent Rooster will not awaken you too early in the morning.....he is quite quiet!!
A fabulous original Mid Century Aubusson Tapestry to enliven your Maison...... (I will have to calculate packing and shipping for this piece to get an accurate charge.)
