This very charming original Bronze Dore' Sculpture by Auguste Moreau depicts a young Boy and Girl, or Putti, holding a very large Basket which contains a few seeds...the 2 petite Chicks are below among the flowers, and eagerly waiting the seeds to fall! There is a lot of movement in the figures and the petite chicks.
This Sculpture has exquisite detail on all sides, and is artist signed on the back of the Tree Stump, on which the large Basket is balancing. The figures are in a mat dore' and the Socle is in a polished dore'.
It is possible that Moreau may have designed this piece as a "Vide Poche" (literally "empty pockets"...to hold your jewelry) or to hold visitation cards in the Victorian period...it was cast CA.1880.
Moreau produced many small bronzes in this form, all with charming subjects and excellent detail. He cast bronzes in all sizes, including super life size...he came from a family of sculptors, originally from Dijon, France, and he was quite prolific in his works.
He was also known as the Master of the "Putti, Cherubs, Angelots", using them in many of his figural bronze groups.
This charming Bronze is approx. 11" wide by 7" high, with the original Uncleaned surface...we prefer to not disturb the original surface patina, so there is a bit of dust here and there in the corners...... it is in excellent condition, and quite heavy for a small Bronze!!
We just acquired it from a French estate...a beautiful bronze in excellent condition, for your collection!
