This is a Fine and Rare French "Ciboire Banner (or Pendant)", completely hand made CA.1860. This Banner was made to hang over the Cross at the top of a Ciborium (which holds the Communion Wafers).
Exquisite Needlework on finely ribbed White Silk Satin, with hand sewn decorations in Silk Thread Embroidery, accented with Gold and Silver "Bullion" threads and Sequins.
The design on the front of the Banner is of a slightly open Ciborium, with a group of "white wafers" peeking out, in a "raised" dimensional aspect. There is fabulous crafting of the Bowl Cover, Cup and Vase in such petite Detail, with bound Sprigs of Wheat as a backdrop. Each Grain of Wheat is finely detailed.
On the Back are the letters "I H S", intertwined, and Rays of Gold Sequins. The Banner is suspended on a braided silk Cord, with a fixed Ball of Gold Bullion work.
A wonderful Religious item that is rarely found in such excellent condition....
