This is quite a unique item we have discovered in our travels... A Roman Revival Style Gorget, cast in Iron, that was most likely produced as a Trophy in the 1850-1870 Period!
The Gorget features a very involved Battle Scene with Imperial Roman Soldiers battling Native Warriors. There are two fancy Roman style Campaign Tents on the Top Left and Right, and a bound Slave on the right side. Lots of Swords, Battle Axe, Helmets, Armor, Shields, one Bow, and a fallen Roman Soldier at the bottom.
There is a well detailed Double Border, Gadrooned and Scaled...the material is a thin Cast Iron of excellent detail, and quite heavy...there are 2 small holes on each side towards the top for hanging or mounting. The Patina is quite excellent.
The size is approx. 9.5" wide x 8" high. Reverse of the Gorget shows the rough casting (see photo).
An Excellent and unique item for your "Private Armory" collection.....
