This handsome American "Modern Still Life", an original Oil on Canvas, was painted by Helen Duckwall. It still retains an original Label on the back from the "Hoosier Salon Exhibition" of 1967. And according to what I found, this Painting took Second Place at the Salon!
The painting is signed but not dated on the Canvas, and we think it could have been painted possibly as early as the 1950's, and then exhibited in 1967. The Still Life portrays a Draped Table with a Vase of Exuberant flowers, situated behind the Sculpture of Buddhist Head, with a pair of white gloves, a knife for cutting the flowers, and a letter! The subject of the Painting was very much influenced by the works of "Hovsep Pushman" who painted in that Era and style.
Helen Duckwall was born in 1912 and died in 1988...she studied at the John Herron Art Institute/School of Art and Design, and also The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She was a life long ("Hoosier") Indiana resident until moving to Florida in her latter years. Her works are exhibited in the Indianapolis Museum of Fine Art.
This Painting is a bit unique as she mainly focused originally on Portraiture, and later Miniature paintings. The sight size is approx. 33" x 27.5"....Frame size is approx. 40" x 34" (the frame is a bit later but a very high quality Frame). The Painting is in excellent original condition.
Fresh from a local Florida Estate....a great size and subject for your "Moderne" Home....
