Original Hermes Silk Scarf....title: "Liberte-Egalite-Fraternite" Republique de Francais 1789, designed by Joachim Metz and produced in 1989.
The Colors of France in Red, White and blue, are Clear and Sharp, and the design is full of French Symbolism... including the "Phrygian Hat" - Sometimes called the liberty cap, it was adopted as the symbol of liberty by the revolutionaries in May 1790.
The Phrygian cap was made famous by the "sans culottes". Many French citizen started to wear the Phrygian cap to show its acceptance of the revolutionaries power. Since then, "Marianne", the Female national emblem of France, is often portrayed wearing or holding the Phrygian cap.
**(Please also view the Rare Antique Dagger in Bronze I have listed that is a figure of "Marianne" holding a Phrygian Hat, amidst other Political and Religious symbolism ofTurmoil!!)**
Marianne holds the Scales of Justice on one side....and on the other side she is inscribing a Tablet with "1789 - Declaration des Droits de L'Homme by...." (Declaration of the rights of Man)
At the Top there is a Triangular shape with an Eye in the Center and a pair of large Wings, which is usally associated with the Masonic order.
This Scarf is in very Excellent condition, never laundered and the rolled edge is perfect. Just the faintest hint of a past Parisian Fragrance. An excellent scarf for your collection "Francais" !! Size is 35" square
