This very Rare Large and Elaborate English Sterling Ink Stand was designed to impress!! Certainly custom made for a well-to-do person in London during the early 19th Century!
On the Reverse of the Stand there is a Hallmark for "London 1817"..... the Maker's Mark is not clear. The size of the Triangular Shape is approx. 11" across at the front, and approx. 6" to the top of the Ink Bottle. The weight of this Heavy Base by itself is approx. 20 troy oz.
The elaborate Detail on the Stand is chased and engraved, featuring Putti riding Dolphins and Writing, grinning Bacchus Masks, and Cupids. Each Foot is Cast with Renaissance Style Masks and draped Swags in between.
The Cut Glass Inkwell fits in a circular depression and features Sterling Mounts, with the same motif found on the Base. It is cut in a deep Diamond pattern, and does have a few "bruised" points.
There are several Old resolder areas on the underside to the Swags, which are not at all noticeable from the front.
An Opulent and Rare Inkstand for your "Bureau Plat"....it certainly will be noticed!!
