A finely detailed French Cross of the Crucifix, in Silver mounted Mother of Pearl, produced CA.1880. This Cross is one of the most elaborate we have ever found in France, and the size is quite large... 4.5" length with the original silver loop at the top...the Silver is marked on the Loop mount and at the very tip of Christs Loin Cloth on his left side.
Featuring a sympathetic Christ in Silver, with a Starburst Corona surrounding his Head, and the Plaque "INRI" above. The Cross is mounted with silver Caps on each end which feature "Winged Chubs" on front and back. The Back of the Cross has an attached Silver Cross plaque that was meant for engraving, but this one is not monogrammed or dated....we normally find the dates on these Crosses to be in the 1880-1890 Period, when this very detailed Silver and Mother of Pearl work was produced by French Artisans.
The Cross itself is carved Mother of Pearl with a wonderful iridescent sheen, and the condition of the Cross and Silver is Immaculate!
The Loop could be hung from a Silver Chain, or a Silk Cord.
A wonderful French Cross, to be worn or displayed......one of the Best we have found!! Would be an excellent Gift during the Holidays......
