This lovely and well painted Pair of Rare Miniature French Paintings are rich in Color and also in Symbolism !! Early 19th Century and signed "Dumont".
One depicts a Lovely Young Woman, with a Tame Love Bird singing on her fingers, with her arm resting on its Cage....she holds a Sprig of Flowers and also wears Flowers in her Hair..a large Pink Bow is tied around her neck, her lips are cherry red, and her Blue eyes reflect the the Blue Shawl on her lap.
The other depicts a lovely young Woman also, but who appears quite Distraught, holding her Head with her left arm leaning on the Bird Cage, upon which the Bird is quite Dead!! There seems to be a dark building just left of her shoulder.
The 19th Century Symbolism depicted in this Pair is for the first painting: INNOCENCE & PURITY. While the second painting is: LOSS OF INNOCENCE !!
Oh Well...c'est La Vie !! In France and across the Ages!!
