This Modernist Oil on Canvas is titled "Mediterrainean Harbor", and signed by the artist "Ladislas Kardos", a Hungarian-Canadian, who lived in France from 1928 to 1951. This Painting is dated 1966, possibly painted on a visit to France as he lived in Vancouver, BC, after 1951. Kardos was born in 1909 in Budapest, Hungary, and died in 2003.
We assume this Scene is possibly Nice or Monaco on the Med. Coast, depicting the tall stylized buildings along the Harbor....it is a wonderful view, showing the evening deep blue sky & the reflections of the buildings & lights in the dark Harbor.
The original Frame size is approx. 31" x 25", and the image size is 30" x 24"...it is in Excellent condition.... it is signed, dated and titled on the reverse of the canvas...it also retains a French Export Seal and a London Shipper's tag, and also a Paris label.
His paintings were widely exhibited, and he is represented in the Museum of Modern Art,Paris...Museum of Contemporary Art, Montreal...Museum of Fine Art, Eugene Oregon...and several other venues
