This oil on Canvas, Semi-Academic - Semi Folk Portrait comes from Eastern Penna., most likely Philadephia. This lovely lady is depicted standing on an open Veranda.
She is wearing a very fine Blue Silk Dress, with wonderfully detailed Lace, along with her Best Jewelry!! She holds a small Posy in her left hand, with her right hand clutching a lace handkerchief next to a colorful shawl.
She is showing a gentle smile, unlike more formal & straight laced portraits of the Period. Her hair style and Dress would indicate she was painted between 1830-1860's.
There is bucolic landscape beyond the Veranda behind her, which is typically found in earlier Folk Art painting, especially in the Philadelphia area.
She is mounted in a simple walnut frame of the period, the size approx. 29" x 25", and sight size of 23.5" x 19"....and in excellent condition.
A lovely Portrait to grace your Parlor....she is very pleasant...and loves her jewelry!!
