This is a very Handsome original Sporting Painting by J.S.Kell... signed and dated 1872. Kell is a very well listed English Artist who excelled in depicting the Angler's favorite Pastime in the Victorian timeframe.
The painting depicts a bucolic scene on the Banks at the front of a Mountain Lake, with the day's catch of Brown Trout cascading from a Victorian Wicker Creel, hence the title "A Full Creel"!! All of the Fisherman's equipment is nicely displayed in this very pleasant and large 19th Century "Sportsman's" painting.
The Frame is original and shows some evidence of age, but still provides a good presentation considering it is 144 years old...the size of the Frame is approx. 31" x 25".
The Canvas has had one old restoration (see photo of the back), but the restoration is well hidden on the front...there is an overall cracklature in the finish from aging, but not offensive. The size of the Canvas itself is approx. 23" x 17.5".
This is a great Painting for a Gentleman's Study or a Lodge & Cabin Decor...it is very well painted with a great subject of Trout Fishing in the Victorian Period!! Those trout look good enough to eat.....
