This is a rather Rare Memorial, for Charlotte Augusta, Princess of Wales....Born January 7,1796 - married May 2,1816 - Died November 6, 1817.
Charlotte was the only child of King George IV, and grand daughter of George III, and was much loved by her subjects. She died in childbirth....if she had survived, she would have become Queen of England
In a hanging flat 9" tall "Obelisk" form frame, made of laquered and laminated papier mache', this Memorial was produced in the year of her Death - 1817. The Medallion at the Center is a bust of Charlotte in Pink Wax, surrounded by a silvered ring stating the date details. Her bust is backed by a black Eglomise disk, which has a fine tight hairline crack on the left side, but is quite stable. Above the Medallion is a brass plaque which states: "To the Memory of Charlotte Augusta 6 Nov 1817 Age 21". At the very top is a Brass Hanger decorated with a Rose & Thistle.
This is a Rare item of Royal Memorabilia, very scarce in today's market...there is an example at the Victorian & Albert Museum in London.
