This is a fabulous and very fine quality French .950 Silver Covered Serving Dish with an amusing "Artichoke" Finial. By Renowned Silversmith "Charles Nicolas ODIOT, CA. 1840.
Featuring a wonderful solid cast Silver Artichoke Finial, a detail that this Silversmith was famous for (See the excerpt from "Odiot L'Orfevre", by J.M.Pincon, Pg.178). This Finial is removable by a well crafted Silver Thumbscrew under the Lid.
With a Solid Silver removable and handled Liner for the Base...other details consist of a rich Rococco Border and "Ribbon Bound" Laurel Handles. There are the 3 separate and solid silver pieces to this Serving Dish!!
The Size of this Dish is approx. 12" across the Handles and 7" in height....with approx. 71 troy oz. and in excellent condition for its age!!
