A Victorian piece of art, this mourning brooch is 18K gold with a black onyx center and a center starburst design adorned with seed pearls. Along the black enamel rim of the brooch is an entire row of tiny bezel set seed pearls. The open C-clasp, hinge, and pin bar are of the period, ca. 1890. The open back would have held a lock of the loved one's hair. It is empty, as shown. Excellent antique condition. It is a very rare and authentic piece of the past, professionally tested.
