This unusual brooch is obviously handmade and exceptional. We have not seen anything like it before, nor can we find information about it anywhere. After close examination, it is evident that it is handmade based on the clever joins of the medallions. The maker appears to be “APD.” The sterling is quite thick, making the piece weighty and substantial. The design is four connected medallions with a filigree crown set atop each one. The crowns are enameled on the outside of parts of the filigree pieces. We believe the small stones atop the crowns are either agate or coral, but we are just guessing. The pin has a secure clasp and opens/closes freely. There is no evidence that it has ever been polished. It is a wonderful silver patina that is highly desired by collectors of vintage silver. On the back there are four marks, two each of “APD” and “STERLING”. Measurements are slightly over 3 inches long by 7/8 inch high and 1 inch wide. It weighs 20 grams or 0.7 ozs.

This is certainly worthy of being a precious heirloom. It is one-of-a-kind and will draw lots of attention when worn or displayed. We have had this mysterious piece of jewelry for a while simply because we like it but have decided to downsize our stash a bit. If you know anything about it, please share!
