Shadow-box Style Tramp Art Frame w/Mirror
We are offering a handmade frame with mirror measuring 14 inches by 16 inches that is in the tramp art genre but with some additional elements that set it apart from the usual tramp art. The maximum depth of the frame is 2 ½ inches and it takes a mirror or picture that is about 8 inches by 10 inches. Unlike most tramp art which is made with scraps of old wooden boxes this wonderful frame is cut from very substantial pieces of walnut. The notches fit the tramp art definition, but there is an additional three-dimensional element to the piece that makes it special. The depth of the wood running around the outside edges gives the frame a shadowbox quality, but it does not fit the typical Victorian shadowbox. Each of the four corners has an interesting construction made with crossed notched pieces of walnut that are crowned with a notched four-corner star. The mirror is modern and definitely not original to the piece. It looks terrific as it is now. However, you might wish to remove the mirror and replace it with a old family photo or some such similar item that is in keeping with the age of the piece. Either way it is a special frame that is in really great condition with beautiful construction and color to the wood.
