We are offering this wonderful piece of Tiffany sterling silver. We are not exactly sure what its intended use was, but believe that it might be for holding business cards or calling cards. It is made from a heavy gauge piece of silver and has been carved with an organic design that is topped with a Viking ship. It is signed “Tiffany & Co” along with the words "sterling silver." The touch mark indicates that the piece was made somewhere between 1907 and 1947 under the direction of John C. Moore II. The pattern number “17070” was first put into use in 1907-1908. Beyond that, we are unable to date the piece more accurately. That being said, it clearly has some age.
The piece measures a total of 2 1/8 inches tall, is 2 ¾ inches wide, and is 1 ¾ inches deep. It has a weight of 1.4 ounces or 42 grams. The condition is very good. It has a small number of very minor surface abrasions that are consistent with age and use. The surface has developed a nice dark patina and there is no sign of having been polished. Overall, it is a neat item that is apparently quite rare since we are unable to locate a similar piece on the internet.
