This wonderful piece is a blast from the past, made at a time when do-it-yourself pyrography (wood burning) was all the rage. The piece is a full-sized wooden shoe that has been artistically decorated using both hand-carving, paint, and pyrography. It measures a total of 11 inches long, is 4 inches tall, and is 4 ½ inches wide. The shoe is handmade based on the marks left by chisels and scorps. The surface was then carved into a set of flowers and leaves along with a textured background. The highlights are painted in green and dark red with all the background stained a walnut brown. On the underside of the shoe it is carved with “W.L.Reidpath 1911 Dec. Buffalo, N.Y.” The piece is in wonderful condition that is consistent with its age. There is some scuffing of the surfaces along with some paint loss from the flower and leaf details. There is a hole on one side of the shoe which is almost always found on wooden shoes as a string was tied through the hole and attached to another shoe so that they could both be kept together. There are no splits in the wood, just minor dings and abrasions.
