Pyrography (or wood burning), often referred to as Flemish Art, was a popular decorative style common in the early 1900's. It is associated with the Arts and Crafts movement because of its simplicity and artistic qualities. We are offering a nice "nut bowl" that has been decorated with pyrography and carefully painted to accent the design. The motif is a large poinsettia bloom that completely covers the inside bottom of the bowl. Curling up around the edges on the outside of the bowl there are additional poinsettia blooms. The bowl measures about 9 ¾ inches in diameter and is about 2 inches tall. As is common with pieces such as this there is a protective coat of varnish on the surface that has keep the bowl in good condition for all these years. The bowl is clean and solid. There is a sealed crack running across the width of the bowl. It was skillfully repaired years ago so that it is hardly noticeable. There is some crackling of the painted surface which adds a wonderful vintage quality to the piece. The bowl is totally sound and solid. This is an exceptionally good quality piece that would be nice to have and use under any circumstances, but it would be especially nice to display with any vintage Christmas decorations. It is a piece you would be proud to use at your next social gathering or simply put on your desk for display or collecting loose paper clips.
