Pyrography (or wood burning), often referred to as Flemish Art, was a popular decorative style common in the early 1900's. It is frequently associated with the Arts and Crafts movement because of its simplicity and artistic qualities. We are offering a small box with a hinged and latched lid that is decorated using pyrography with an organic motif that covers the lid and three sides. The decorations on the sides are crisp and sharp while the lid could use a cleaning to remove layers of dust that have accumulated over the years. The box measures 4 1/2 inches long, 2 ½ inches tall, and 3 ½ inches deep. The box is solid. There are several small cracks along the corners that have not weakened the integrity of the box in any way. There is also a slight warp on one corner of the lid that prevents it from sitting completely tight. There are the usual small abrasions and wear marks that would be associated with an item that is this old. This is a nice little box that is ready to be used and would add a decorative element to a shelf or table.
