We are offering a Flemish Art style glove box or handkerchief box with a hinged and latched lid that is decorated using pyrography along with wonderful painted daisies and leaves motif that covers the lid, front and two sides. The floral decorations are crisp, sharp and well executed. The vibrant colors against the wood and pyrographic background create a very cheerful look and feel. The background is a pyrographic texture that adds some nice interest to the piece. The box is quite large measuring 13 inches long, 3 3/8 inches tall, and 5 3/8 inches deep. The box is clean and structurally solid. There is a very minor crack that has developed at the right back corner joint. The separation is far from complete so the joint is still very strong. There are the usual small abrasions and wear marks that would be associated with an item that is this old and has been used, but they are minor in nature and do not detract from the look of the piece. The hinges and the latch are original, in good condition and totally functional. On the underside of the box there is a stamped logo for the Flemish Arts Company along with an inventory number 033. The inside of the box was fabric lined at one time as evidenced by some residual glue and small fragments of fabric. It could be removed but could also be left the way it is or possibly even relined with some new fabric. There is a delightful odor of perfumed hankies still in the box which we will include for free to the new owner. This is a nice box that is ready to be used and would add a decorative touch to any shelf or table. The wonderfully executed painted daisy design is rare and makes this box special. Pyrography (or wood burning), often referred to as Flemish Art, was a popular decorative style common in the early 1900's. It is frequently associated with the Arts and Crafts movement because of its simplicity and artistic qualities.
