This decorative plate is a post-World War II souvenir item that is beautifully decorated with pyrography, carving and painting. The theme of the plate is floral with edelweiss blossoms encircling the front edges and center of the plate. The basic structure of the plate was formed on a lathe and then hand carved and painted. It measures approximately 11 inches around. The shape of the plate is distorted slightly due to a bit of warping as is commonly found in aged wooden plates. Independent of that, the condition is excellent. The painting is clean and bright. The surface is covered with a thin layer of varnish that has helped to protect the paint as well as provide a nice glossy appearance. The finish is all intact. There are no significant scratches or abrasions. On the back there is a hanging loop all ready to be used if you wish to hang it on a wall. Also on the back written in pencil is an undecipherable word along with “1944" and “Germany.” This is a wonderful piece that would look great hanging on the wall of your kitchen or in your Alpine chateau.
