Pyrography (or wood burning), often referred to as Flemish Art, was a popular decorative style common in the early 1900's. It is often associated with the Arts and Crafts movement because of its simplicity and artistic qualities. We are offering a collapsible book rack. The two ends fold down for easy storage. Using pyrography this piece has been beautifully decorated with snakes and dragons on a textured surface. The piece has been covered with a light layer of varnish which has served to protect it over the years. It is quite substantial in size measuring a total of 17 inches long, 7 inches wide, and when the bookends stand upright is about 6 1/4 inches tall. The condition is very good. The hinges are still tight. Two small pieces of wood have split off of the two folding ends but at locations that are not obvious. There is the usual minor wear from rubbing along with a few small dings. The dragon/snake motif is an interesting element that is unusual for pyrographic items but adds a nice gothic feel to the piece. If you have an Arts and Crafts bungalow then you must have this book rack to display part of your antique book collection. You will not be disappointed!
