Pyrographic (Wood Burning) Painted Cherries Dresser Box
Pyrography (or wood burning), often referred to as Flemish Art, was a popular decorative style common in the early 1900's. It is frequently associated with the Arts and Crafts movement because of its simplicity and artistic qualities. We are offering a box with a hinged and latched lid that is decorated using pyrography with an organic motif that covers the lid and all four sides. The motif is bunches of cherries and leaves against a textured background. The decorations on the sides are crisp and sharp, definitely done by a master pyrographer. As an added bonus the design of the cherries and leaves has been augmented with paint for emphasis. The box measures 12 5/8 inches long, 3 inches tall, and 5 inches deep. The box is clean and solid. There are the usual small abrasions and wear marks that would be associated with an item that is this old, but they are minor in nature and do not detract from the look of the piece. The hinges are original and the latch might be a replacement. This is a nice box that is ready to be used and would add a decorative element to a shelf or table.
