This is a wonderful souvenir booklet published for visitors to the Gettysburg battlefield. It is copyrighted 1905 and was published by the L.H. Nelson Company of Portland, Maine. The majority of the booklet consists of photographs, but there is also a map of the battlefield along with several illustrations. There is some text with each illustration and photograph. The photographs were copyrighted in the late 1880's and early 1890's and were taken by the well known Gettysburg photographer W.H. Tipton. The booklet is soft cover with the cover stapled to the body of the book. The cover is still well attached. There are 32 pages plus the front and back covers. Considering its age and the fact that it was never intended to survive for long, it is in surprisingly good condition. There is some minor waviness to the pages along with a few creases and smudges. Other than that it could be described as being in extremely good condition. Early Gettysburg souvenir publications are becoming more and more difficult to come by especially ones in really good shape. It is interesting to compare the views in the photographs with what those views look like today! This is an exceptional piece and will be a very worthy addition to any collection.
