This is an original cabinet card photograph of William F. Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill. The photograph was done by Charles E Stacy sometime during the 1890’s. Stamped on the bottom front of the card is “Stacy” located at the “Corner of 9th St & 5th Ave Brooklyn”. On the back it has the printed message “Yours truly, W F Cody”. The piece measures 4 ¼ inches by 6 ½ inches. Cards such as this were often obtained at Cody’s “Wild West Show” as souvenirs. It most likely dates from 1890’s thru early 1900’s. The condition is quite good. The image is strong with some minor abrasions appearing in the area of the hat and one in the upper right corner. Although there are a few minor spots on the piece, it is a surprisingly clean image without the usual fingerprints, smudges and dirt that gets picked up as a result of years of handling. The corners are all intact with no creases or bends. There is minor bumping along the two upper corners with chipping along the edges. On the reverse the printed signature is strong. There is an area the size of a dime on the back where the finished surface has been lifted as if a piece of tape were removed. There is also a square shadow on the back which appears to be where tape might have been used to attach the piece to an album page at one time. That might explain why the piece is still in such good condition. This is definitely an item to add to your collection as it is above average in quality.
