This antique fabric Victorian era handmade applique is a delightfully heron. It is fairly large measuring 11 inches tall and 9 inches wide. It is mounted on cloth that appears to be a type of canvas. Most of it is made with different colors of felt. On the reverse side all of the needlework used to assemble it is visible. The front of it has some wonderful details. The bird has a red head and a beaded eye along with detailed feathers and feet. You need to look at the photos very closely in order to get a good sense of the piece. It is in very good condition, considering its age and the delicate nature of fabric over time. There are some areas on the front where the backing material is showing through. This might be a result of some insect damage done years ago or simply deterioration due to the aging process. Check the photos and you can judge for yourself what the extent of this damage is. If you collect old textiles or early sewing items, then this will be a great addition to your collection. It displays so well that you might want to attach it to a stable archival backing material and frame it. As a framed item it will be wonderful.
