This is a rare calendar ashtray from the 1930’s, that is made in Germany, and was owned by Hapag Steamship Company which later became Hapag Lloyd. It measures almost 6 ½ inches in diameter at the base and stands approximately 1 7/8 inches tall. There are several moving parts on it that, when turned, will change the date and day of the week. The days are printed in German, “Freitag”, etc. The piece is very heavy solid brass and is beautifully decorated with cast images of water, steamships, and the “Hapag” logo. It is in fine used condition with some minor oxidation and cigarette ash stains in the middle. Other than that it has a very good patina. This is a scarce item. We have not been able to locate another one anywhere on the internet. If you collect steamship memorabilia, smoking items, or ashtrays, then this is a piece that you do not want to miss out on. This is a wonderful looking item. When it is gone it will likely be difficult to locate another one.
