This wonderful footed tray comes from pre-World War II Germany in the 1920's. It measures 6 3/4 inches in diameter and has a total height of 1 3/8 inches measured from the tabletop. It consists of a ceramic glazed tile in the center that has been decorated with an arts and crafts motif done in burnt umber and grass green. The decorative aspects of the design are very strong. There is the number "1802" on the back that mean nothing to us. It is most likely a design and style code. Around the rim there is a metal edging band that is made of nickel and has been brushed to obtain a dull sheen. There is minor intermittent oxidation of the metal primarily located on the lip of the rim. This oxidation is minor and does little more than help to establish the age of the piece. The small dimensions make this a much more rare tray than the majority of trays of this type. The ceramic tray is in top-notch condition with no chips, cracks or breaks. The metal rim is also in good condition with some very minor dings and oxidation as mentioned earlier. The three ball feet are all present and firmly attached. Overall, this is a rare decorative item that you would always feel comfortable using or displaying at any time. It would look great hanging on a wall but would also be a nice place to dock a bottle of wine or serve some small treats.
