This is a delightful miniature carving of a cabinetmaker working at his bench. Judging by the quality of the piece, it was definitely made by an individual who knew his or her way around carving tools. The piece stands 6 ½ inches tall and is 4 3/4 inches by 4 3/4 inches at the base. The vignette shows a man standing at his bench with a carving chisel in one hand and a carving mallet in the other hand. Several carving chisels are sitting on the surface of the bench along with a turned spindle. On the shelf underneath the bench top there are two cabriolet legs. Oh yes, the bench vise really works, in that it can be turned open and closed. The piece is signed with the makers three initials, ERS, behind the carvers foot. The whole piece is in very good condition. There is no damage. If you are a cabinetmaker or know one, then he or she would certainly enjoy having this displayed in his or her shop.
