We are offering you an early hand-colored butterfly or moth print from The Naturalist's Library, edited by Sir William Jardine. This print has been done by the well-known engraver Lizars. The Naturalist's Library was published in a number of different editions and because we do not have the original books we are unable to establish which edition they came from. They are most likely from the time span 1830 to 1840. Each print is approximately 4 3/8 inches by 6 7/8 inches. (There will be some very minor variation in size from print to print.) Each print is in reasonably good condition. They have typical foxing as usually found in paper from this era and the paper is somewhat fragile. They also have a rough edge where they were unbound. In addition, the other edges will have minor wrinkles, tears, and folds. None of this would interfere with the look of the prints if properly matted. We are listing these prints individually so you will have plenty of choices available and can mix and match until you get a set of prints that is appealing to you. As you look through them you might find something that you cannot live without. These prints would look terrific if they were archivally matted and then framed. They will be great accent pieces for your living room, bed room, or den. Be sure to check them all out and ask any questions that you might have. Be sure to look at the second photo of this piece. The first photo has been edited by Ruby Lane and might have made the edges of the print appear to be cleaner and sharper than they really are.
